The nearby historic seaport of Reedville, VA, is just across the water. The port dates back to before famous Capt John Smith.  BTW: "Reedville" was named in 1867 after a Capt. Reed This seaport remains a fine example in today's rapidly changing Chesapeake Bay region of a traditional working fishing village. You can visit the Reedville Fishermen's Museum and be sure to see the Walker House, the oldest house in town plus visit a restored waterman's home, and the historic boat collection which includes a 1911 skipjack, a 1922 buyboat. Don't miss the "Spirit of 1608", craft which was built at the Museum to commemorate Captain John Smith's exploring and charting the Chesapeake Bay.
